premier of MM1

The film MMI was shot using hand held cameras, basically two, a Canon Mini-DV digital and a Hi-8mm Sony. These instruments created all of our music videos. Check back each week for updated behind-the-scenes blogs on MMI.

“Say Goodbye”
The boys had just finished their final show at the Tipperary Inn Texas. Earlier in the day, I had this idea for the shoot, a black and white journey through the street, a finale based upon lyrics and emotions. The time was 3am when we began filming after packing all the heavy gear into the van. Gus and Hash were tired but turned in an exceptional performance. The shots were they appear to be floating were filmed in the Best Western parking lot. Gus and Hash were laying on baggage/ luggage carts found outside the hotel to create this effect.

The mates struggled to balance themselves flat on the cart while lip-synching their song. However, their practice in hatha yoga aided them in performing this stunt. We can see in one frame, Hamish bracing himself for air as he belts out a verse. Overall, I was ecstatic about the footage and instantly knew how special it would be for fans. The live footage is from their only performance of the song, filmed in Ben Lomond, Northern California. My brother Sam created the special effects for the video, which added the special ingredient. Say Goodbye was the first video completed for the DVD. Dallas is the focal point for the video, a truly spectacular metropolis, which strangely illuminates a green glow from its buildings.

mongrel mythology, the production log

The theatre was cool and the audience was hot with anticipation. Mongrel Mythology Vol. I took to the streets at Sellersville Pennsylvania on June 20th 2005. Sam and I had worked on this project for a year, utilizing countless hours of footage from the road. I believe the version being seen in your DVD players is the 6th or 7th edit we put together. How the DVD has evolved is interesting and maybe one day we’ll have an extended director’s cut.  Our goal as filmmaker’s was to illuminate BROTHER's music visually for the screen. As a fan of their music, I knew our DVD had to live up to high-level expectations. The end result came exactly one year after production begun. I traveled with the band quite a bit earlier in the year. After the tour wrapped, I headed back home with Sam to edit the beast. In our original version, we had an elaborate intro where a girl escapes the city into an actual urban cave, while the “time is now” rocks. The scene just wasn’t right for our first DVD, but may soon be released. While the mates were in Australia, we finished a draft and sent it over the ocean. Sometime in February, when they returned, additional scenes were filmed and the final edit began. I remember driving down the 10 in Los Angeles to finalize the artwork for the DVD. As I pulled off the exit, I remember smiling to myself and saying, “this is it”. That feeling along with ongoing feedback from fans has really been special. I encourage all fans to submit their comments on MM1 to the website. If you have specific questions, I will do my best to answer. Cheers to the BROTHER fan base.
