hamish with artist, Michael Carroll and Mark
Atkins. |
It was
a delight
to re connect with didg man
Mark Atkins.
We had 2 days to create our theatre show yet it
never felt like there was any pressure.
We sat with each other
playing and singing
throwing around ideas and arrangements
learning each other's songs
finishing new tunes
remembering old ones.
Grand plans
for another time,
achievable magic
for this moment.
A casual
extended
living room vibe.
Artist
Michael Carrol
a relo
of whom i'm very fond
created the perfect backdrop for us.
A design on 6 meters by 1 meter of calico inspired
by the ongoing story of continued logging in the
forest around sacred Gulaga Mountain near here.
When i arrived back at the theatre before the show i
walked into the theatre pre doors and was struck by
how alluring the stage and set looked.
An ordered array of
didges, guitars, amps, drums, assorted toys and mics
cloaked in mysterious lighting with an evocative
backdrop, this was a show i'd be excited to see.
And hear.
Sarah Farkin
opening the show
won the Milton Music Fest Great Busking Showcase
only just the week before.
intimate.
vulnerable.
confident.
"Sarah was so refreshingly honest and unique."
Mark began for us
and our Journey
Out to the Inside
his big sound filling every corner of the room
penetrating every hidden cranny.
And from there
the evening rolled by
with stories
and messages
and music.
Bagpipe & didge jams to close
with Noel Butler and Joseph on Djembe
and then
we were done.
"Wow, I could not believe all those sounds from Mark
- it really sent my mind wandering and the
combination with the bagpipes which happen to
resemble an exotic medieval sea creature was a
wonderful experience."
Good
easy
enjoyable
if a tad more cerebral
than we are both used to.
We did have a bit to remember.
And it was
a night
to remember.
