the workshop and show
BROTHER creates an hour of
entertainment, engagement, insight and inspiration. This
musical journey is built around original Australian-made
music, taking students of all ages from the traditional
roots of two of the most ancient musical instruments on
earth - the didgeridoo and the bagpipes - through to their
application and relevance in today's rock 'n' roll culture.
The show incorporates guitars; the renowned BROTHER vocal
harmonies; bass; penny whistles; and Middle East
percussion, and illustrates the creative power to be found
in the combining of different cultures.
Key components in all shows:
- Interaction
- Improvisation
- Demonstration
- Explanation
"We want students to leave a show feeling, I can do this.
I'm going to do this."

the performers
Angus and Hamish have toured their band, BROTHER,
internationally for over a decade. Along the way they have
been asked to perform alongside some of the biggest names in
music, from the likes of the Eagles', Joe Walsh and Jon
Entwhistle of The Who, to superstars Alicia Keys and Linkin
Park. Soundtrack credits include BARAKA, the Twilight Zone
and a cameo appearance on NBC's 'ER'.
After leading their high school pipe band to consecutive
Australian Championship crowns, years of piano exams and
teenage rock bands, Angus and Hamish each undertook a BA in
communications (journalism). Upon graduating,
they dove head first, eyes shut, into a music career.

They took on Los
Angeles as little more than fresh-faced farmboys, busking at
Venice Beach, the Hollywood Bowl and Universal Studios to
survive. BROTHER was taken on by the LA Music Centre's
prestigious School Music Program and quickly became one of
the Centre’s most requested acts. The band has incorporated
school shows and workshops as part of their touring ever
since. BROTHER has evolved its trademark sound not by
following trends but by doing what was true to their hearts
and musical expression. The band has released 12 albums,
sold more CDs in the USA than any other independent
Australian act and is now regularly cited as a role model
within the independent scene. The band has performed at
many major festivals across the USA and Canada, held mass
didgeridoo workshops, a residency at Disney World's World
Music Series, and held school music workshops from Paris
to Milwaukee to Mudgee. This wealth of experience is what
Angus & Hamish bring to their school performances. |
